Today IKEA City in Gallerian, the retailer’s first city store in Sweden, opened in downtown Stockholm, making IKEA more convenient for Stockholmers than ever before.
With today’s opening, Stockholm is added to the map of new IKEA city stores, after cities such as Paris, London and Mumbai, as part of Ingka Group’s move to meet changing customer behaviours around the world.
The investments in Stockholm are part of the retailer’s global expansion boost where more than EUR 3 billion is being invested in new and existing stores by the end of 2023.
“I am so proud to finally be able to welcome our customers in to the first city store in Sweden. Today we are bringing the IKEA experience to the heart of Stockholm and celebrating a huge milestone in our journey to become more accessible. We look forward to inspiring even more Stockholmers with our home furnishing solutions and store team,” says Jenny Vasquez Ling, Market Manager for the new IKEA City store in Stockholm.
The new city store has 160 co-workers with many home furnishing experts to support customers in improving their life at home and making it more sustainable. Secondhand furniture and accessories are offered for delivery with electric vehicles, while a green thread will steer customers towards products that support a more sustainable life at home.
“Sweden is where IKEA began – and today, almost 80 years later, it is still a very important market for us. Even in a mature market like our home country Sweden we still see potential to expand. The new IKEA City in Stockholm is a great example of how we can expand by becoming more accessible and convenient for our customers,” says Tolga Öncü, Retail Operations Manager, Ingka Group.
The city store in Stockholm is the 20th new location that have opened since September last year and more are planned, including in Mumbai and San Francisco.
“We are listening to our customers and building a seamless IKEA shopping experience to meet their needs. From that first inspiration to the moment you can sit down in your new STRANDMON arm chair – we want the whole journey to be seamless. With IKEA City Stockholm we are bringing together the best of both physical and online retailing,” says Öncü.
In IKEA City Stockholm the retailer’s full home furnishing range of more than 9.000 articles will be available to order as in all IKEA locations around the world. Around 5.000 products are offered to customers to feel and touch on four floors in the heart of the capital – more than 2.000 for immediate pick-up and the rest with convenient delivery options.
