Ingka Group has partnered with the World Economic Forum (WEF) and 47 global businesses in order to advance racial and ethnic justice in the world of work.
The Partnering for Racial Justice in Business initiative aims to build equitable and just workplaces for professionals with under-represented racial and ethnic identities, starting with Black inclusion.
The Partnership is being launched during the Davos Agenda, a convention of global leaders to rebuild trust and shape the principles, policies and partnerships needed in 2021.
The Coalition has been designed to operationalise commitments to eradicate racism in the workplace, set new global standards for racial equity in business, and increase the visibility of racially and ethnically diverse leaders across industries. It also provides a platform for businesses to collectively advocate for inclusive policy change.
Participating companies are committed to ensure racial and ethnic justice is on their board’s agenda, take at least one firm action and to set a long-term strategy to become an anti-racist organisation.
Ingka Group, consisting of IKEA Retail, Ingka Centres and Ingka Investments, has already confirmed its commitment to increase ethnic, racial and national diversity at all levels of leadership in 30 countries, by 2024, as a part of its Equality Plan. Special attention will be given to representation in management, including by employee category, in boards, as well as percentage of salaried vs. hourly co-workers.
“At IKEA, we side with the many, and we believe that a better everyday is also an equal everyday. We are committed to create a fair and equal workplace, for everyone no matter ethnicity, race or nationality. We see three main reasons; it is about fairness, it’s about reflecting the diversity of our customer base to meet the dreams and needs of our customers in better ways. And finally, it opens up for more and new opportunities to attract and recruit the best talents. By working together with WEF and other businesses we hope to accelerate the pace and scale of change to create more fair and just workplaces and society,” says Jesper Brodin, CEO Ingka Group
Ingka Group is a founding member of the WEF coalition alongside other global businesses shaping the future of the new economy and society.
