IKEA Festival will be held at BASE in Milan from the 6th to 12th of June, and will feature installations, product reveals by designers and collaborators, and a schedule packed with events and excitement.
IKEA is bringing the ‘IKEA Festival’ to BASE in Milan for Milan Design Week 2022. The festival will feature a dynamic schedule of events and immersive experiences to showcase the future of retail and design, explore how the relationship between people and their homes has evolved, and show how improving your everyday life can create for a more mindful home.
“Fuorisalone is the high point of every design-enthusiasts’ calendar. After two long years without it in our lives, we are thrilled to be coming back with a bursting schedule full of the unique IKEA magic, from collaborations to democratic design talks, and ever-changing installations to parties every evening” says Marcus Engman, Chief Creative Officer at Ingka Group the largest IKEA franchisee.
The theme of this year’s Fuorisalone is Between Space and Time, and IKEA is bringing events and experiences linked to life at home and the design of our spaces to BASE. Visitors of the IKEA Festival will see a unique installation that will remain throughout the week and unique pop-up experiences that will transform daily.
The days will be dedicated to previewing upcoming collections, and sessions with long-term collaborators and in-house design talent. This year’s event will feature Fredrika Inger, Global Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden, Design Manager Johan Ejdemo, in-house Designers Mikael Axelsson and Friso Wiersma, long-term collaborator and UK-based Designer Ilse Crawford, Rotterdam-based Designer Sabine Marcelis among many more. We will also host musical experiences, and events in the evenings with international artists.
“We’re happy to be back in Milan this year, to come together to share and experience some well needed inspiration and optimism towards the everyday” says Fredrika Inger, Global Range Manager at IKEA of Sweden. “We look forward to having valuable conversations around design and life at home and giving some sneak peaks of the coming products – meaningful, well designed, and affordable for many” she adds.
In addition, the indoor area will host Ögonblick – A Life at Home Exhibition, a fascinating physical and digital installation inspired by H22, which will be open for visits all week. H22 is a project in Helsingborg, Sweden which IKEA is partnering with the aim to build “the sustainable city of the future”. Ögonblick is the Swedish word for “moment” – and with the exhibition IKEA will tell the story of different moments in life through a deep understanding of people and their relationships with their homes, analysed through its annual Life at Home Report.
“We are excited about our participation in the Fuorisalone with an important project focused on the relationship between people and their home. Through installations, experiences and talks, we also want to tell the story of how the concept of spaces has evolved over time, to adapt to people’s new lifestyles in an era of constant change“, says Luca Battistelli, Home Furnishing Direction Leader at IKEA Italia.
Moreover outside, in homage to Italy’s design capital, classic Milanese courtyard housing will come to life. Visitors will be able to explore homes which reflect the lives of three different families, each home telling the unique story of those who live in it. Finally, of course visitors will have the opportunity to taste and savour traditional Swedish food at the IKEA Festival.
