IKEA opens store in Bucharest, its largest in South East Europe

IKEA has opened its largest outlet in South East Europe in the Romanian capital city of Bucharest, 12 years after it opened its first store in the country.

The second store, IKEA Pallady, will have three models of complete interiors and 58 rooms ideas inspired by Romanians’ houses, in our bid to cater to the local furnishing needs, with handy solutions and products.

IKEA in Romania saw an increase of 11% in its customer base in the last year alone, making Romania one of the best-performing countries for IKEA in the world. The 37,000-square-foot IKEA Pallady will provide customers with nearly 10,000 products reflecting IKEA’s philosophy of democratic design, functionality, quality, sustainability and low price.

“We are pleased to continue our journey in Romania and to open Pallady, our largest store in South East Europe and the second in Bucharest! Opening this store we are responding to the increasing number of customers in Romania – only in the last year, IKEA saw an increase of 11%, which makes this country one of the best performing IKEA markets in the world! We are very proud of this fantastic result and we are more than optimistic that we will continue with excellent performance in the future!” said Sara Del Fabbro, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA South East Europe.

As a part of our ongoing sustainability efforts, IKEA Pallady will offer a buy-back service that will allow customers to bring their used IKEA furniture that is still in good or good condition and receive a voucher in return.

The total value of the investment in the store is approximately 90 million euros.

In addition to the 500 construction jobs that were created during the building of Pallady, about 600 employees have also joined the new store.
