For the first time in the 50-year history of IKEA in Denmark, IKEA is opening a Planning Studio in Copenhagen.
The Vesterbro located studio will focus on kitchens and wardrobes, offering a more convenient and accessible IKEA, ready to serve the many citizens of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg.
With approximately one out of every five Copenhagen residences owning a car, while everyone has a bicycle, IKEA’s presence in the city means it is accessible and easy to shop at, even on a weekday on the way home from work.
“Our Planning Studio is the first concrete example that we at IKEA are changing our business model and concept. For 50 years in Denmark and through 75 years in Sweden, our concept has been successful and basically the same. Urbanisation, convenience and digitalisation creates a new pattern of consumption and needs, and we are trying to accommodate them with this Planning Studio, which we have high expectations for,” said Johan Laurell, Country Retail Manager for IKEA Denmark.
With the IKEA Planning Studio in the middle of Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen, more than 720,000 citizens of Denmark’s capital city and Frederiksberg can hop on their bikes and soon be talking interior design projects with IKEA co-workers. Customers will not only be able to plan and order kitchen and wardrobe solutions, but will also have the possibility to purchase the rest of IKEA’s range and arrange for it to be delivered.
The new store has been developed and designed according to Copenhagen’s style, helping residents with their dreams and needs, particularly those with limited space.
Within the kitchen and wardrobe areas, the ambition is that the new Planning Studio will contribute 40% of the growth during FY20. IKEA Denmark estimates that the Studio will, in its first year, present revenue of around 50 million DKK, based on an estimated 100,000 visitors and sales of more than ten kitchen or wardrobe solutions per day.
