IKEA U.S. received a perfect score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the country’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality.
The CEI rates companies and top law firms on criterion that fall under five broad categories: non-discrimination policies, employment benefits, demonstrated organizational competency and accountability around LGBTQ diversity and inclusion, public commitment to LGBTQ equality and responsible citizenship.
“We are proud to receive this recognition for the fifth consecutive year,” said Rafael Fantauzzi, Country Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Officer, IKEA Retail U.S. “As a humanistic and values-driven company, we work hard every day to ensure that IKEA is a workplace where all of our co-workers feel valued, respected and supported.”
IKEA U.S. has been recognized for leading the industry with many inclusive benefits for LGBT+ co-workers and their families including: health/medical, dental, vision, bereavement, relocation/travel assistance, adoption, employee discount, supplemental life insurance and parental leave. The IKEA U.S. medical plan also covers a portion of gender confirmation counseling and surgery.
“These companies know that protecting their LGBTQ employees and customers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do — it is also the best business decision,” said HRC President Alphonso David.
In 2019, IKEA partnered with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Project THRIVE, a multi-year national campaign to create more equitable, inclusive support systems and communities for LGBTQ youth.
